PostSubject: Computer Req's For WAR   Fri Aug 22, 2008 6:24 pm

Basically anyone that is not able or doesn't have a free preview key should know that if you have anything less than the lowest set of system requirements to run the game, that you are probably going to have to upgrade ASAP to atleast stay as a decent threat during PvP.

Im going to try to get my computer before the game actually releases.

Basically made this thread because im pretty illiterate when it comes to buying computers and making them etc.

If anyone can offer some help on this, my budget is around 1,200 - 1,500 so anything to do with basics on what to get first or priorities etc. would be nice.

All i want the computer to be able to do is run WAR at atleast a medium/high settings mix, it doesnt have to be the best thing just able to run WAR good enough so that its enjoyable.

I recently picked up a XPS630 from Dell. quadcore 2.4, dual 512mb 8800gt vid cards, 4 gb ram, 620 GB hard drive, for around 1350 pretax.

I did have a custom build option on it, but you won't need to pay for a second video card to have good settings here, and it will save ya about 200 bucks. I think I was looking at sub-$1200 for a solid setup with the quad core.

I also sprung for the vista ultimate/XP downgrade which was a bit more expensive. You can get the comp with plain vista home premium for around a grand I'd imagine.

Look online for discount codes and deals, and if you call them, the rep might be able to offer you an additional discount. Ask about a college or work discount for the employee purchase program. I got an additional 6% off.

without insane coupons, dell is never as good an option (money-wise) as building your own. even if you consider yourself to be computer illiterate, putting together your own PC is not that bad at all.

newegg.com is the essential website if you are interested in building your own PC. I personally have built many computers and I'm sure many others on the forums here have as well, so you'll find ample help. Are you looking to build the best possible rig for your budget or what's your aim here?

edit: Here's a good guide for a couple of pre-built systems (categorized by budget), with newegg links to the parts: http://techreport.com/articles.x/15009/1 It's a decent place to start if you're totally lost. This- http://techreport.com/articles.x/15009/6, for instance, is their recommendation for a system in the 1300-1500 dollar price range.

I finally can run this fucking game.

4gig OCZ DDR2 Ram.

GeForce 9600GT

Core2Duo 2.4

Intel MB

DvD-RW Drive

Sound Blaster Card

+ Every LED/Cathode makes it run 10% faster.

In real response to Folsum, for 1,000-1,500 you can build an absolutely insane machine. Mine in total cost like 350$. No joke.

Ya I'm going to be ordering parts for my new computer tonight. It's gonna run me around $600 but that's including the OS. I looked on sites like cyberpowerinc.com and ibuypower.com and for an identical set up they wanted about $900 w/o the OS.

Not that I know of. The only probs most new computers have with these cards is simply case size, ie. they are huge and they can't fit.

I have a full tower so there really isn't a problem. The XPS you have -looks- like a mid tower but I can't really tell from the pictures.

Either way make sure you have room for a 10-12 inch long card. And depending on thre manufacturer it may 1-2 inches wide.

This is mine, I recommend it simply because of the price/performance ratio. You can't beat this for 100 bucks.

--edit--

On a side note, as cheap as these things are you can easily SLI the bitches as a quick upgrade later on.

On a completely different topic. I formatted and no-longer have vent admin. make me one.

On the same topic, here is my new comp:

It's a pretty shitty pic but my camera's battery is dieing. You can see the chemical aging stuff joe used to make the case look old.

Na it's glass with the wire on the inside. Like I said, really shitty pic. I'll try and take another pic tonight so you can see all the UV reactive shit. Half of which isn't even in yet.

I will probably be playing on my laptop more since it's newer and actually quite a bit better than my ~4 year old desktop. Although I really want to upgrade my desktop, I'm probably not going to until Starcraft 2 comes out.

I played the opening weekend on my desktop, balanced graphics.. really no problem in pve areas. PvP however was netting me about 5-10 fps in combat and that was just scenarios.

For Reference my desktop is:
Pentium 4 2.8 ghz
nvidia 6800gt 512mb
2gigs of ram

My laptop, which I will probably play on the most is:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 1.7ghz
Nvidia 8600M GT 512mb
2gigs of ram

Although the most graphic intensive game I played so far on my laptop is Bioshock, which ran well on max graphics. So I'm pretty sure I'll be able to handle Warhammer. The one downside is that I hate gaming on my laptop when I have access to my desktop.

I can't use laptops. Just the way the keyboards are laid out drives me nuts.

PS.

Here is comp with lights on:

I have about 3 more UV's to put in there, so it will be much brighter when I'm done.

Laptops are alright, as long as there is a normal desktop mouse hooked up to it.

I had a wittle laptop mouse when I used to play Diablo 2 on mine (lolz?), but I have little hands so it worked. But yeah, touchpads make me weep.
